It’s good to have a regular cleaning routine for the daily and weekly tasks in your home such as washing sheets, dusting surfaces and vacuuming floors. But what about all the important odd jobs that we forget to add to our to-do list? Here are 7 often overlooked odd jobs in areas of your home that need love too.
Rugs
Eventually, the time comes when your area rug needs more than a thorough vacuuming. To remove stains and deep-rooted dirt, it needs a full clean and with the right tools, you don’t need to hire a professional.
Start by vacuuming the rug on both sides to remove any surface dust and dirt. Flip the rug right side up and prepare for the deep clean. The VAX ONEPWR SpotlessGo Cordless Spot Washer is ideal for cleaning carpets, including rugs with a cordless and lightweight design, meaning you can make light work of tackling stains and messes throughout the home. Together with the ONEPWR Multi-Floor Solution, the Vax ONEPWR SpotlessGo will also remove over 99% of bacteria.

Leave the rug in a warm area to help with drying and vacuum one last time to restore any flattened carpet fibres.
Don’t forget to clean any smaller entryway rugs as well!
Turn and Vacuum Mattresses
Next time you clean your sheets, give your mattress a good vacuuming to remove the build-up of allergens and bacteria living just beneath. You should do this about every three-six months to keep your mattress fresh and clean.
Whilst your cleaning your mattress, don’t forget to flip or turn your mattress to stop it wearing on one side.
Vacuum in hard to reach places
It’s easy to neglect certain areas when vacuuming, such as down the folds of your sofa or on top of furniture. A lightweight cordless vacuum cleaner such as the Vax ONEPWR Blade 4 is perfectly balanced for effortless, easy to use cleaning, up high or down low.
The Vax ONEPWR Blade range also comes with a crevice tool, perfect for removing crumbs and fluff from hard to reach places.
Skirting boards
We all know we need to regularly vacuum our floors and carpets. But, if your skirting boards aren’t part of your regular routine, it’s likely they only get noticed once they’re covered in a layer of dust.
When vacuuming your floor, make sure to pay attention to skirting boards, too. If you’ve got time for a proper clean, wipe down with a dampened microfibre cloth.
Cleaning your fridge
A quick clean of your fridge may already be part of your cleaning routine but how long has it been since you gave it a good deep clean?
Empty the fridge first and turn it off at the wall. Clean the surface dirt and debris with a damp cloth, working from top to bottom. Using a handheld steam cleaner, such as the Vax Steam Fresh Power Plus, begin to work the steam around the fridge, focusing on any sticky or stubborn messes.
Finish by wiping the surface down again to soak up any remaining water for a fresh and clean fridge.
Replace filters
If you have an Air Purifier, your filter will have been working hard to remove allergens, dust and pollen particles from the air. If it needs replacing, now is a good time to put in a clean, fresh filter ready for summer. The Vax Pure Air 300 and Vax Pure Air 200 Air Purifiers have a filter replacement indicator and depending on use, the filter will need to be replaced every 3-6 months but refer to your manufacturer’s instructions for other models.
Clean your vacuum cleaner
Your vacuum can be one of the most hard-working tools in your cleaning arsenal but don’t forget that to keep it in top condition, it needs regular maintenance.
Remember to regularly empty the dust container, remove and clean your filters and check the floorhead for tangles and blockages. Refer to your user guide for more tips on keeping your vacuum performing at its best.
