Quick cleaning tips with a big impact
Struggling for time to clean?
Finding it a struggle to keep on top of cleaning your home? Vax reached out to cleaning guru and influencer Hayley Leitch (@hayleys_help) who recommended some cleaning tips, especially for freshening up your home with limited time on your hands.
She recommends ‘A tidy start to the day’ – making your bed in the morning may actually reduce stress levels, so perhaps it’s worth encouraging the household to make their beds so you all start the day right! Simple things like running your vacuum over the main rooms in your home, such as the living room and kitchen can have a huge impact on presentation. This can be a quick and easy task especially when using a cordless vacuum from the Vax Blade Range.
A tip for decluttering for when you’re in a hurry is to create a muck-it bucket for quick immediate tidies of anything that isn’t in its rightful place. Later, when you have more time, you can return the items to their designated homes.
Want a quick kitchen refresh? Wipe down your kitchen surfaces and sink, then place 10 drops of tea tree oil down the sink drain to deal with any lingering odours.
Got more time to clean?

A tactic to help you keep on top of your cleaning is to stick to the ‘category cleaning’ method. Rather than cleaning in one day which – let’s face it isn’t exactly possible, make it easier for yourself and try a spring clean month.
Start by using the category cleaning method. Simply categorise cleaning tasks into bite size sections so it doesn’t become overwhelming. The areas in our homes that don’t always fall into a more regular cleaning routine are the ones that we will want to focus on when spring cleaning. We can categorise some of these as; windows and blinds, radiators, skirting boards, ceilings, and light fixtures which will cover most homes.
Before we begin any cleaning, it’s always wise to remove dust! The easiest way to do this is with a cordless vacuum, using a dusting brush attachment. This will allow for a more efficient clean. One to try is the Blade 4 Dual Pet & Car which comes with a free accessory kit worth over £50 when bought direct from vax.co.uk.
Once you’ve worked through your categories finding the best methods to tackle each aspect, you’ll want to try keep on top of the cleaning over time. One way to help with this is a cleaning schedule.
It’s helpful to split this into weekly, monthly, and quarterly tasks to make it more manageable. Some of the weekly tasks could include vacuuming the floors, changing bedding, cleaning the kitchen and bathroom including the floors. Hayley recommends using the Vax ONEPWR Glide as it vacuums, washes, and dries hard floors all at the same time saving you time.
Monthly tasks could be cleaning windows, dusting blinds or cleaning upholstery. A Vax spot washer, like the SpotWash Home Duo is a great tool to have in the house to freshen up your upholstery or small area stains on rugs and carpets. A task you might want to save for the quarterly clean is carpet washing, treat your carpets to a clean using the Vax Platinum SmartWash. It kills over 99% of bacteria* which could be embedded deep down in your carpets even after vacuuming every week! Hayley says she likes to clean her carpets every couple of months. Talking about the Vax Platinum SmartWash, she says: “You’ll be surprised what it pulls up each and every time! It’s been designed to automatically release solution and clean your carpets as you push the machine forwards, and it will dry your carpets automatically when you pull it back. It’s really that easy!”
